This year's International Linguistics Olympiad, held between June, 31st and August. 4th in Dublin, Ireland, welcomed 160 participants from 27 countries around the globe. Bulgaria was represented by two teams of four students each.
Our country scored its best performance yet, winning 3 gold medals, 1 silver, 3 bronze and a Hononourable Mention. All of the Bulgarian students returned with awards from the prestigious event. So far, our participants have brought home a total of 57 medals – 15 gold, 17 silver and 25 bronze.
Assoc. Prof. PhD Ivan Derzhanski and Lyubomir Zlatkov from the “Mathematical Linguistics” department of the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics contributed to the preparation and the training of the Bulgarian teams.

Radoslav Radanov, a teacher in the Professional School of Transport and Construction “Hristo Smirnenski”, Razgrad, and Mascil multiplier, won the pirze for the best poster in the international contest Make your own poster with resources from the Scientix platform. The contest was in the frames of the STEM Discovery Week 2017.
A matter of pride for thw Institute for Mathematics and Informatics (a national contact point for Scientix) is the fact that the resources Dynamic Hearts and Snow Flakes, used by Radoslav Radanov in his work as a Mascil multiplier and included in his poster, have been developed by Toni Chehlarova in the frames of Mascil project. Except on the Scientix platform they are available at the Virtual School Mathematics laboratory (VirMathLab) of the IMI-BAS.

The 34th Balkan Mathematical Olympiad (BMO 2017) took place from 2 to 7 May 2017 in Ohrid, Macedonia. Bulgarian contestants wonfour gold and two silver medals. In team ranking Bulgaria stands on the first place receiving 226 points (out of 240).
The remarkable success of the Bulgarian team is the result of the efforts of the contestants, their teachers and leaders. Leaders of the team are all from IMI-BAS - Assoc. Prof. Ivaylo Kortezov, Dr. Dragomir Dragnev, and Prof. Oleg Muskarov. Here are the names of our medalists:

The All-Russian Mathematics Olympiad took place from April 24 to 29 in Kaliningrad, Russia. The Bulgarian team once again performed excellently and returned with one gold and four bronze medals, and with a honorary diploma..
The excellent preparation of our competitors is due to their team leaders, Dr. Dragomir Dragnev from the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics - BAS, and and Emil Karlov from Sofia Mathematical School.
