On September 9, 2017, at the Conference Hall "Georgy Baev", Cultural Center "Sea Casino", Burgas, the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics organise the National Information Day “Serious Games as Contemporary Tools for New Educational Applications”, to present scholarly and scholarly-practical outcomes of the “Serious Education Games as Contemporary Tools for New Educational Applications” project, Contract № ДСД-2/05.04.2017 between the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics, activity “Introduction of Contemporary Methods in Educating and Fostering Young Talent” (ПМС № 347). The Information Day starts at 9 am.

The project “Serious Education Games as Contemporary Tools for New Educational Applications” includes the development of models, content and technological solutions for serious games, presenting the Thracian civilisation and culture. Educational materials, approved by the Ministry of Education and Science, sources from antique architecture and artefacts, discovered during archaeological excavations and research by Bulgarian scientists are used for the selection and curation of the content. The main goal of the game is to provide the learner with knowledge about the basic characteristics of the Thracian civilisation and culture, by exploring the rooms of the building discovered under the Ostrusha mound (The Valley of the Thracian Rulers, near Kazanlak). The visual design of the game is based on digitalised copies of Thracian tombs, heroons, sanctuaries and the armaments and treasures found in and outside.

On the Information Day “Serious Games as Contemporary Tools for New Educational Applications” there will also be demonstrations of an educational 3D serious game about the Bulgarian kilim industry as well as projects for serious educational games on military history heritage and national identity.
