President of the European Research Council – Prof. Jean-Pierre Bourguignon – is a special guest at the conference Mathematics Days in Sofia, organized by Institute of Mathematics and Informatics, BAS
The European Research Council is responsible for the distribution of a significant part of EU funding associated with individual grants to scientists from all countries who wish to carry out research in Europe. Professor Bourguignon will present the activities of this Council in a lecture on July in Sofia Hotel Balkan. The lecture will be attended by representatives of all other scientific fields in Bulgaria. One of the purposes of this presentation is to encourage Bulgarian scientists from home and abroad to apply for funding for research to be carried out in Europe and, in particular, in Bulgaria.
Professor Bourguignon arrives in Bulgaria by invitation of the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics, BAS, for the International Conference Mathematics Days in Sofia to be held from 7th to 10th of July 2014.
During his visit, Professor Bourguignon will meet the Minister of Education and Science Prof. Aneliya Klisarova (Tuesday, July 8), and later also the Deputy President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Professor Nikolai Miloshev. On these meetings prof. Bourguignon will discuss with the Bulgarian authorities issues related to the financing of science in Bulgaria.
On July 9th, Professor Bourguignon will meet Dr. Anna-Marie Vilamovska, Secretary for Science and Healthcare Policy of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria.
On July 9th Professor Bourguignon will visit the President of the Bulgarian Research Fund Professor Venelin Enchev. At this meeting they will discuss the challenges facing the future of the Fund, as well as strategies for its further development as a major source for project funding for scientific research in Bulgaria.
