The Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, jointly with the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", Plovdiv University, the Association for Development of Information Society, the Bulgarian section of the Association for Information Systems, the Union of Bulgarian Mathematicians and the Union of Bulgarian Scientists are to hold a Jubilee Conference on Informatics on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of prof. Peter Burnev.
Prof. Peter Burnev is one of the founders of the Informatics division at the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of BAS, he was the founder and head of the software department, deputy director of the Joint Center of Mathematics and Informatics for many years, Vice Chairman of the Union of Bulgarian Mathematicians for long time, founder and first chair of the Association for Development of the Information Society.

The event was officially opened by the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mr. Rosen Plevneliev, on July 7, 2014 at "Sofia Hotel Balkan"
First International Conference Mathematics Days in Sofia was organized and conducted by the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences from 7th to 10th of July, 2014.
As their main purpose the organizers indicated their intention Mathematics days in Sofia to become a traditional meeting of Bulgarian mathematicians working in the country and abroad, with colleagues from prestigious research centers in the world to share the latest scientific advances in mathematics and informatics.
